INAFA’
MAOLEK Develops New PEACE THEATRE Capacity
Working
with a novice cast of performers, drama trainer Kennon Espaldon
Wolff, created new skits that harbinger some exciting new aspects
of the Inafa’ Maolek peacemaking ministry.
The
“Conflict Coaching” skit becomes a tool for training
potential peacemakers to reach out to single disputants on a one-to-one
basis to guide them productively and pro-actively through a conflict
situation. The skit depicts how a conflict coaching role can sometimes
evolve into a CONCILIATOR role wherein the peacemaker serves as
a go-between among the conflicted parties. In other instances, however,
the conflict coach is retained to help one disputant process his/her
own contribution to the dispute, understand conflict style considerations,
grasp alternative courses of actions, and enhance skills for communications/listening
and confronting.
Wolff, himself a Inafa’ Maolek mediator and former peer mediator,
pulled together a talented and diverse ensemble to perform the new
skits:
Three veteran YUMs:
Aislinn Rengiil
Trisha Guerrero
Mia Taimanglo
Three newly recruited UOG students
Edimund Wengu
Clarina Grigley
Mariana Santos
Two high schoolers (GW students)
Daniel Nelson
Mikel Nelson
SKIP dancer
Jonathan Cortez
In addition to the Conflict Coaching skit, the September 21-October
1, 2005 35-hour drama training also produced a new made-for-TV PSA
spot as well as a new puppet skit.
The puppet skit focuses on a boyfriend-girlfriend conflict, an arena
in which Inafa’ Maolek hopes to make a positive contribution
through future workshops.
The 30-second PSA spot, set to air this holiday season, encourages
people to get reconciled with estranged friends/relatives so as
to discover true peace this Christmas.
